My Experience

Mi experience was amazing!!!! When we got there the water was so cold!  The first thing we did was learn about what we need to do in the kayaks.  Then my partner and I were so scared because it was the fist time in a kayak.  When we were in the water with the kayak we went to the other  side to eat lunch. Then we talked about the fresh water and salt water. Then at the end of the trip we painted a picture about the trip.   It was a great experience!  THE END

Artist Boat

Hello my name is Angie Lara.  I went to the Artist Boat field trip to Galveston Bay.  When we go there it was amazing but it was a little cold!  I was happy to be there. First the teachers explained to us how to get in the kayaks and paddle.  We stopped to eat lunch and the teachers explain the difference between the salt water and fresh water.  When we paddled back my partner and I went fast and we had fun.  It was amazing to have this opportunity.  THE END :-)
My day at the artist boat was fun.  First Mr. Phill and Alex taught us how to use the paddles and how to turn our boats around.   After that we went in the water.  There were stingrays in the water but we didn't get to see them because people were being too loud.  When we were riding our kayak my partner and I bumped Mr.Parker and their kayak but they didn't fall out.  Then we went and measured the salinity of the water.  After that we ate our lunches that we brought from home on an island.  Then we traveled all the way to the sand bag and we saw blue crabs.  It was really fun!  Then we went further than out and and painted using water colors.  We had to paint the environment that surrounded us.  We ate sea berries and saw a snail that opens a stem and poops in it.  The snail poop fertilizes the plants.  Then we paddled all the way back to shore.  It was a great day!

Artist boat

The Artist boat was awesome! We learned about the salinity of the water and that salt and fresh water mixed is called brackish. We ate lunch on an island and tested the waters ph and salinity. I raced my teacher and won. Also, we ran into the grass and got stuck.  After we ate, we paddled to a different location and painted the awesome scenery, Then headed back to school.  Today was a fantastic day!

Hello my name is Nadia Morales. I went to the Cypress Swamps with the Artist Boat on December 02, 2015. When we got there it was so cold but I was happy to be given the opportunity to go. I was in the first group to get in the kayaks.  I was scared when they told us that there were alligators and snakes in the water.  We went far out in the water, far away from the land.  We saw many trees and fish for the first time. It was fun because we went between the trees, and almost got stuck. The water was cold and looked dirty but I learned that the water was fresh water . I learned about a plant called spanish moss. It was fun when we painted the nature picture and when we did the water quality tests.

Hi my name is Kenya Johnson. I recently went on the kayaking trip to Trinity Bay. I had fun going kayaking with my classmates.  My partner and I made it back to shore first before our other classmates.  It was also a good way to learn while having a good time. One of my classmates kayak flipped over so she had to swim all the way back to shore.  It was also a good exercise for your arms because when you paddle, your arms start to hurt. The trip was also a good learning experience about some science that I did not know about. We learned about how water was made clean by the plants living there, and how the trees help stop flooding.  There was also many trees and plants.  There was a plant i think called Spanish moss that the lady told us it was related to the pineapple. Before we left we fed pepperoni to the community dog. I had a very good learning experience from this trip. It was very educational to me.

Cypress Swamp Trip

When we went to the cypress swamp, we first tested the water for various things such as salinity nitrate levels, pH and turbidity. Salinity is the amount of salt in parts per thousand, and the salinity was about 1. Nitrate levels were around 0-5. pH was about 7.5 and the water was very turbid. We then learned about different paddling techniques. We tightened our life jackets and started to paddle into the water. There were many bugs, birds and alligators along the way. We stopped after awhile, ate and painted, then turned around and headed back. During the full trip we learned the 4 purposes of a wetland.
